Big Bore Stage II Kit For EFI Models - 103 Cubic Inches is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A BIG difference! I had the version of this kit that is for my 2010 Wide Glide installed by a pro, and I am VERY, VERY happy with the results. The bike makes a lot more power overall, especially in the usable ranges for normal riding and passing. I also added a high-flow air cleaner and a high-flow exhaust system, plus you will need to re-map, and finally I went with manual compression releases, to help the stock starter deal with the extra power. The additional power and improved throttle response the bike has now is outstanding!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Additional Parts Required! I installed this stage 2 kit on my 2011 Fat Bob. Instantly I loved to extra power especially in the low RPM range. Then I "started" getting problems...... bike won't start when the engine is hot and there is an ungodly grinding noise from the primary case unless the bike if left to cool down. Turns out the stock compensator can't keep up with the increased 10.5/1 compression ratio. Everyone I talked too recommended replacing the stock compensator for the SE one#400$ for just the part# and adding some compression releases....either manual or automatic. After talking with the dealer it turns out "they are not set up to drill the heads for releases"! WTF! Why sell a kit such this that is going to lead to problems but then not either warn or advise the customer that they are going to have issues. An internet parts store has the manual releases for 100$ and a local machine shop can drill the heads. I would have gotten the manual SE releases but the parts catalog labeled them "for race application only.....which meant the dealer wouldn't sell them to me". All told an extra 900$ for additional parts.....unless you like getting stuck for a hour to let the bike cool down after stopping for gas. I would recommend that the instructions or description with this kit reflect the instructions included with the 255 cams...... "recommend compression releases when installing with stock OEM parts depending on final displacement/application/compression". Also...... unless you are worried about your warranty#which I bought used so I didn't have one# install it yourself. You could buy ALL of the required tools yourself and then install it for 1/3 what a dealer would charge you to do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ADDS HANDFULS OF TORQUE Got this done and could not believe all the bottom end torque that was added. Real easy to start off in 2nd gear! Really livens things up and makes you realize that you unlocked all this previously hidden grunt that was just waiting to be unleashed. The cams make all the difference here. So glad I got this over the winter. While this is conservative compared to the 110 kit, it adds no stress to the engine - just simply wakes it up.

Compression releases necessary with stage II big bore kit for 2009 FLHRC?

I have a 2009 FLHRC with 50,000 miles on it and I would also like to know if Harley believes compression releases are necessary with the installation of the Stage II big bore kit for the 96 ci?

The bigger 103 jugs, 255 cam, new pistons and high-flow air cleaner made A LOT more power when I put this same version of the Stage 2 kit on my 96" 2010 Wide Glide. It truly made a big improvement overall and especially in the usable power bands for normal riding and passing. And to answer your question, in my case, I DID need to add a compression release to help the stock starter deal with all that power. I went with the manual releases, which has worked great for me. VERY glad I bought this kit. Good luck!

Does installation of the 103 stage 2 require the addition of compression releases?

I'm considering this upgrade for my 2008 FLHRC with about 20,000 miles on the clock. I notice a lot of contoversy on various blogsites as to whether or not the installation of the 103 stage 2 kit mandates the use of compression releases for easier starting. Where does the motor company stand on this and would it be recommended for my application?
