Locking H-D Detachables Latch Kit is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slight design flaw, but otherwise works excellent for my application! I saw in other reviews that several people had trouble with these, but I decided to try them anyway. After a bit of tinkering they now work perfectly on my 2017 Heritage side plates. Harley could fix this issue by simply reversing one of the two pieces and providing one for the right side and one for the left instead of giving you two identical pieces. Both of the locks are the same, and they each have one flat side, and one side that is countersunk for a washer to fit in. I found that I could make either lock work on the right side when the countersink was facing in, but then the left side was giving me trouble because the washer only tightened against the barrel that the screw was threading into, and didn't hold the lock securely in place. I got around it by using JB weld to permanently fix the original washer into the countersunk area on the lock on the left side, and then used a slightly larger washer to hold the assembly to the side plate. Other than that little bit of extra effort, I'd say the product is perfect. I'd like to see Harley correct this issue by reversing one of the two locks, and labeling them "left" and "right". Anyway, I now feel comfortable leaving my bike and knowing that my backrest assembly can't be removed in 2 seconds without the keys to the locks. I have no issues locking and unlocking them, or removing and re-installing my side plates like some of the other users mentioned in their reviews. I can't say how they would work or fit for other applications, but if you want them for your side plates on a Heritage, I would definitely recommend them!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They do not work on either sides of the luggage rack I purchased these to safeguard my Tour Pak. I was able to replace the standard latches with relative ease. I first tried to install both locking latches to my luggage rack. One would securely attack and lock while the other would not. So I tried then to attach only one and leave the non-locking latch on the opposing side and still no success in making both successfully latch. One side would and the other would not. I tried interchanging these locking latches to different sides with different combinations and still no success in getting both to securely lock without using a hammer or similar tool to knock them into place and then try to unlock or open them. Based on my experience and the comments of others, I would not recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not fit well When used with a 2016 Sportster 1200C sissy bar the lock mechanism is inaccessible with the stock key. My HD mechanic cut one key off and welded onto an allen wrench on the short 90 degree angle side in order to access the lock mechanism. However, it is still awkward to access and does not work easily. I cannot recommend it. Good news is the sissy bar, pad and rack look so cool I am not taking it off any way. Save the money. HD should take their logo off this product or redesign it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from locking H-D Detachables latch kit. I bought these for my 17 street glide removable tour pac. They fit terrible. I finally got one to work on my detachable luggage rack. I did get it to finally work on my tour pac after two hours of trying different mounting directions. Then i had to use a soft/plastic hammer to get it to latch! fit was bad. I have to use the hammer to remove it after i unlock it. I dont think anyone will be stealing the tour pac without a hammer! H-D needs to re-engineer these!

Is it possible to order lock set (90300087) keyed to match a set I already have (10018)?

Asked by: Tuckit
Hello Tuckit, Unfortunately, these are not offered in a key matched option. They come pre-packaged from our vendor. Thank you!

Seams like both latches are same sided?

I brought chrome lockable latches (part no. 90300087) that I tried to install on my King H-D Detachables Two-Up Luggage Rack (part no. 50300054). But, it appears that both latches are same sided as there no physical difference between them. Finally, I ended up with two latches that "rotating" in opposite directions (which hardly could be right). What I'm missing here?
Asked by: corto
Hello Corto, Both latches are the same. They should be able to pivot in both directions. If you can not figure it out, please see your local dealer for assistance. On certain models and accessories, first swap the right and left non-locking latches (see Table 1 to determine if this is recommended for your application). This will change the clockwise and counterclockwise motion to attach and remove the accessory. By changing the latch rotation, the lock mechanism will point toward the rear of the vehicle and provide greater key access. 1. Remove right non-locking latch (1). Leave right spring washer (5) on right mounting hub (2). 2. Remove left non-locking latch (3). Leave left spring washer (6) on left mounting hub (4). Install left non-locking latch (3) on right mounting hub (2). 3. Install right non-locking latch (1) on left mounting hub (4). Thank you!

Can't make 90300087 lock work with 53472-09 Two-up Luggage rack

Luggage rack tube in way of keyhole. Washer installed between parts per instructions but it's not enough.
Asked by: pigpen2
Hello Pigpen2, The latch can be assembled in an alternate position to fix this. It is not as simple as “remove old latch and install locking latch”. We have an installation table in the isheet that is included with the latches. Please see reference 3 and for on that sheet. If you need more help, please see your local dealer for assistance. Thank You!
