This is a very sturdy sissy bar. The triple plated chrome is exactly what you expect from HD. My only complaint is that the locking hardware should have been included from the factory.

Removes when I want
I prefer the look of my '17 Road King without the sissybar backrest. However, when I take my wife or kids, this is obviously a necessity. It goes on and off with very little effort. I haven't had any issues with it. It's nice to have!

Abs of steel
I ride a 2016 Roadglide Ultra with a detachable tour-pak. I ride two up 95% of the time, and rarely use the tour-pak unless on a long haul.
It seems many have fitment issues with this. Mine is a bit snug, but luckily mine goes on and off without a hitch. Seems most of the negative reviews have to do with fitment.
As for function, I bought this for my passenger's comfort. She is 5' 5", 115 lbs, and is in fantastic shape, but after an hour or two in the saddle, her abs are worn out. We use the stock seat. She has complained, to deaf ears, from the day I purchased this backrest. Her complaint is, the base of the bar pushes her rear end too far forward, but the bar slants back and the top of the pad only comes up just above the small of her back. We do seem to bump helmets more these days, and whenever I accelerate she has to lean forward because of the strain on her lower back. This is under normal operation and acceleration; I don't hot dog the bike with her on it. Optically, the bar looks upright on the bike, but using the level function on my iPhone, it actually leans back 10 degrees. After almost a year of complaints, it finally dawned on me to actually sit back there to see what the complaint was all about. The bar looks tall and upright, but believe me, it FEELS much shorter and the top of the pad was at the small of my back. Ergonomically, it's horrible, I'm 5'10, yet, the pad sits at the very small of my back. She put some carpenters tape across my back, so that it was even with the top of the pad. I then sat in the driver's position, she did the same with the tape, and the top of my backrest sat just over 3" higher than when on the back seat. Buddy of mine just bought a 2016 Roadglide Special, has the same bar and pad, and his wife who is 5'3" has the same exact complaint. It might have something to do with the curvature and design of the pad I don't know, but I will be looking for a taller pad, if not through Harley-Davidson, then through an aftermarket company that I know makes them for these backrests.. While this might be a good bar (assuming it fits your bike properly), expect some complaints if you choose the wrong pad. On a good note, 3 rides weekly, and your passenger will have abs of steel!

Does it fit?
After reading some reviews about it not fitting properly. I had the parts department try and put it on my 2016 SGS before I purchased it. It works great, once you flip your right-side shock upside down. The HD dealer flipped mine for me in about 10 mins. No charge. I guess they wanted the sale.
