Why is this not factory installed on a FLHXS?
I do not understand why this is not on a FLHXS from the factory. The left handlebar has the voice command button but there is no way to actually use it. Same as adding fog lights to a new car but expecting the buyer to come back and pay another $100 to get the switch so they can actually use the lights. I was very surprised that my Bluetooth helmet would not connect either. After extensive researched I found the only way to get this to work was installing this cable.
Easy install. The removal of the white plug in the wiring harness and connecting the ground in pin 12 is a pain in the butt! Be very careful removing the plug from the harness. I suggest a paper clip or dental tool for this. I hated the HD location for mounting the 7 pin plug (on top of tank to left of console). It looks like garbage! I would expect HD to have a much better plan! After reading this review thread and several on other sites, I decided to mount on the console. It looks really nice and although a little scary, turned out to be very easy to do. Drill a pilot hole about 3/4" below wording on the console and then use a step drill bit to slowly drill out the hole until the jack fit perfectly. Suggest using a file to add a notch at the top of the hole so the jack cover fits flush and won't spin. Took me maybe an hour to complete. Works perfect.

Ok removing the plastic pin was a bear. I wound up cutting the wire and and soldering it and that worked out great. Also I drilled a 3/4" hole in the left side of the inner faring like the CVO style and it came out great. This item works great with the SENA Freewire and 20S.

Boom Audio Music & Comm Kit Is A Worthwhile Investment
I put this on my 2017 Street Glide and absolutely love it. This setup is the only way to use all of the features of the boom audio infotainment center. You can use voice control to make calls, change music selection and etcetera.
Prior to doing this install I looked at Bluetooth options but realized that the Bluetooth options only allowed me to sync the headset to my phone, which in my view is kind of worthless.
The only dislike I had, was where the instructions said to install this unit, which was on top of the fuel take. I installed mine on the left side of the inner fairing. The entire install process was very easy.
All you will need is a T27 Torx and a drill with a 3/4" drill bit to install this on the inner fairing. The T27 Torx is used to remove the fairing screws, and the drill with 3/4" drill bit will be used to drill the hole in the inner fairing. Before you attempt to screw the cover onto the unit to attach it to the inner fairing, you will need to cut off a plastic tab on the underside of the cover so that it will sit flush against the inner fairing.
