Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Rails These guard rails dress up the whole bike. The instructions that people put online were better than what came with them. They look great and are made stronger than I expected. The cost of them is nothing compared to the cost of new bags so the protection is worth every penny. September 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ride in the morning, add chrome in the afternoon I too must thank the other reviewers for the warnings related to the install. I personally do not have the tools nor the talent for working on my Harley, but I always ask the parts guy if "An idiot can do it." If he says yes, I'm in! So on my 14 FLHR I can tell you the turn signals need to be loosened in order to slide the rails through and on the right side, you do need to remove the end piece. But that was relatively easy, even for an idiot. I thought the left side would be a piece of cake, but the part that clamps to the saddlebag guard would not come together well. I had to carefully use a vicegrip with a towel to hold it together. Then the screw torx head was somewhere in between what I had for a torx wrench. The wrench spun and I ended up going to the hardware store for a screw that could be tightened with... wait for it... a screwdriver! But now its done and it looks great. The main reason for the add on was to avoid buggering up my bags when parking the bike in my limited garage space. This would not be a problem if there was a drywall color in the paint choices. Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid. Easy Install High quality guards, very solid. Easy install as long as you follow the reviews on this product as others have said, thanks to all reviewers! August 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sharpens up the bike Please read the part in the reviews about taking off the end to install. I am not sure why Harley Davidson just doesn't ship with the part dry fit and include the 5/32 set screws in the nuts and bolts bag. After removing the end it is a 10 min job per side to attach each rail. The set screws have blue lock tight which stripped my 5/32 allen but I had a handy grinding wheel that allowed me to grind my allen down to where it was usable again. Please consider shipping the end dry fit to rails and add the set screws to the parts bag with blue lock tight if its necessary. It is a pain in the rear to take the set screws out when you have the blue lock tight applied. I do recommend the part to add character to the bike but Harley Davidson needs to make the above changes so anyone can class up their ride easily. Taking the end off will allow even the mechanics who install the rails to take less time and effort to do the add on and definitely help do it yourself people add a nice accent to their bike. I added to my 14 Ultra Classic and they look great. Hope Harley Davidson actually reads the comments and makes the change for others who upgrade or want to add some class to their ride so it will take them less time in the shop and more time to be on the road enjoying their ride. Answer:
It's the only way I can see to install the guard rails. So far I have not installed my rails as I don't want to remove my shocks. If you can come up with another way please let me know.

I like the look but want to take the saddlebags off to do a good job cleaning the bike. I don't want them if I have to take the guards off to remove the bags.

Answer:
Yes, you can remove the saddlebags with the rails on. Just tilt the bag at an angle and remove. Be sure to empty them first so you don't have a lot of weight in them. Saddlebags liners are good for this.
