The actual hardware turned out to be chrome-plated pot metal.
The kind of metal that is very "micro-air bubbly" found in cheap tools at Walmart.
I had this windshield 10 months when - within 3 weeks - three of the quick-disconnects broke!!
I only remove it about once a month to clean the bike. I live in Southern California.
Additionally, when attached to the bike, I can say in confidence that they have never been "over-tightened". I'm PRAYING I can by the hardware separately and I don't have to by a whole new windshield.

I've owned three Sportsters and one Low Rider, and installed a Quick-Release Compact Windshield on each. Of all the many accessories that I've installed on my bikes, the Quick-Release Compact Windshield is at the top of the list. Material quality has been consistently outstanding, the bright-work retains its lustrous finish, the windshield is distortion free and durable, and the quick-release mechanisms function flawlessly. Except for an annual tightening of the fasteners that secure the windshield to the horizontal and vertical braces, the only maintenance required is an occasional clean-up. If only all H-D accessories were this well-designed and manufactured.
There are, however, a couple of areas for improvement. Since the improvements concern compatibility with other accessories rather than defects of the Quick-Release Compact Windshield, they did not affect my rating of the product. First: This windshield is not compatible with H-D's accessory driving lights. I'm not sure why H-D doesn't offer an alternative Quick-Release Compact Windshield with cut-outs that would accommodate its own driving lights. Second, as another commenter noted, you can replace one of the four quick-release clamps with a locking clamp. But if you do, it may be difficult to insert, turn and remove the key due to limited clearance. I found the hassle so much that it defeated the purpose of the "quick-release." I ended up removing the locking quick-release clamp and re-installed the original.

Be careful when you mount it. If you replace lower catch, rather than the higher one, it might be difficult to unlock, if the key sticks out and is close to the cross member fixture on the tubes.

I purchased this windshield for my 1200C and it made going longer distances so much more pleasurable, but if you want to roll around town 4 quick release clips later and it is off in seconds!! I highly recommend this item for that versatility you can get with the Sportster line up!
