O.K. I may be imagining things but with the Tour Pack detached -- it seems as though the bike is more aerodynamic and handles better without that additional weight of the tour pack. Similar to when you were a young child and your Parents purchased you a new pair of tennis shoes and you were absolutely certain that the new shoes made you run faster. Well with the tour pack removed my 2016 Road Glide Ultra may not actually handle any better but it looks “meaner / cooler” especially with the additional lights -- HA! In all honesty this should be a standard feature on all of these large tour bikes and please note that this detach kit is not inexpensive. I had this installed by the professionals at Knoxville Harley-Davidson “West” located in Knoxville, Tennessee and they did a very nice job; as always. Love the look and recommend. Thank you!

Rated 1 out of 5 by EdRo Extremely disappointed!!
Purchased a new 2015 Limited in February 15. The dealer installed the HD detachable tour pak conversion kit, at time of purchase, prior to taking possession of bike. I left the tour pak on all season and didn't remove until winter of 16. When I removed the tour pak I discovered that the wires had severely damaged the paint on the rear fender (see pic). Personally, I expected better quality from HD and feel this is unacceptable. However, the dealer and/or HD will not accept responsibility and repair or replace the damaged fender, which was certainly unexpected. According to HD this detachable mount is outside of the tested fitment and they do not have a pre-determined route for the wires. This too was shocking and unexpected. Evidently I wrongly assumed that genuine HD parts and accessories were tested for fitment, especially when they are made for a specific model. I could understand it not being a tested fitment for models outside of the ones it is recommended for, but it should be designed, engineered, and tested to fit the models specified. HD should seriously consider hiring the reviewer who caught this flaw and said he quickly and easily fabbed up a fix to prevent this from occurring. It seemed like a simple solution. Anyway, very disappointed with this accessory and HD in general. I do not recommend.

I like almost everything about this product. It allows me the versatility of quickly taking the tour pak off when not on a trip and it was very easy to install. I read the reviews prior to buying and learned that unless you want damage to your paint from the wires rubbing on the fender, you will have to do a slight modification. I took the advice of one of the reviews I read and made a cradle to hold the wires up off the fender by melting a piece of plexi-glass and attaching it to the bottom of new tour pak frame. it was real easy but this should have been addressed by Harley. Would have been an easy 5 stars if this issue was already taken care of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gene059 Two bikes in one
This kit created two biking experiences in one bike and is a worthy addition for those tourers who don't want all the additional amenities when not riding two up, or just around town.
My install was closer to six hours really taking my time, as opposed to the two hour install time of another reviewer. I did not go with the internal fairing antenna recommended by another reviewer, and had no issues with the new location of my existing antenna.
I did elect to change over to the quick release lower fairing kit at the same time and highly recommend it(my kit went onto my 2014 Electra Glide Ultra Classic).
The installation was straight forward with nothing overly complicated to figure out. I did purchase a how to tutorial on the net which was helpful, but not really necessary.
The change over from taking trunk and fairings on and off after install completion is anywhere from 5-15 minutes from start to ride time literally creating the two different riding experiences I mentioned earlier.
I highly recommend the kit, and for all those that wrestled between the Street Glide and full bagger when making your original bike purchase decision, here's your answer to put your mind completely at ease.
