It’s hard to describe … that utter sense of freedom and exhilaration!

Now 35, it seems so long ago when I got my license to drive a motorcycle. As soon as I turned 19, I took the motorcycle safety course. But it took 15 years to get my first bike. Well worth the wait. For the longest time, I would ride on the back of my friends’ bikes any chance I got.

When I was ready to buy my bike, I went to the Harley-Davidson dealer and sat on a few bikes. That’s when the 2011 SuperLow caught my eye. As soon as I sat on it, I was sold. The colors are classic Harley off white, black and orange. It was perfect for my 5'8'' height. I knew handling it wouldn't be a problem. Since I hadn't ridden by myself for a while, I took my time relearning. My friends—other Harley riders—helped me get back on the road. It didn't take long. I was scared at first, so I rode the first 30 miles up and down my street.

It’s hard to describe how wonderful it is to ride my own bike and feel that utter sense of freedom and exhilaration! I love it and I encourage all women motorcycle lovers to experience riding on your own. Be safe and happy riding!

Being on my Harley helps take me out of the worry zone

Last year I bought my first Harley which was a Sportster 883L. I cannot describe the peaceful and stress-free rides that I had on her. Then recently, my husband surprised me with a 2010 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail® Classic. And it came at a time when there is total chaos is our life. My son is getting ready to leave for the Army and he and I are really close. I am very proud of him but I am going to miss him terribly. Plus, my daughter is getting ready to move into her own apartment at the same time my son is leaving.

I hear a empty nest is a wonderful thing to have, but my children are so important to me, as I know each of yours are, and it is difficult to not know where they are and what they are doing. However, being on my Harley helps take me out of the worry zone and into the world where I feel accomplishment, peacefulness, relaxation, and not about what is going on around me. It’s an utter escape from the stress of life. Riding a motorcycle was the best decision I ever made. I have a husband who supports me and is proud to have me by his side.

My Rx for stress reduction: a long ride on my Fat Boy!

A few years ago my husband kept talking about how he always wanted a Harley and so we started looking. I surprised him on his birthday with a 2008 Dyna and told him that I wanted to ride too. So we took the MSF course together. I was very nervous at first, but became more comfortable and when I saw the new SuperLow™ I thought I had found my ride. I’ve always loved Softails, but I convinced myself that they were too big. But when I tried the SuperLow, it didn't feel like it fit. The sales gal at our dealer told me to go for it and try the Fat Boy I had been looking at. She told me it was well balanced and that I would love it. I took it out for a spin and OMG it was an awesome ride. I found it so easy to ride and so comfortable. I bought it and put the first 100 miles on it the first weekend!

I am a family practice doctor and I work hard all the time. I have found that my Rx for stress reduction: a long ride on my Fat Boy! As I roll on the throttle I feel all the tension and stress just roll away—I wish everyone could know the feeling. My patients love it that I ride, they wave at me when they see me out on the road.

I had friends with Harleys and I always enjoyed … the camaraderie.

About six years ago, I tried to pick an activity that might help me meet new people. I thought about getting back into horses. But I didn't like the cliquish nature of the horse crowd. I had friends with Harleys and I always enjoyed their company and the camaraderie. I became intent on joining them. I took my rider course and it took me a month to muster the courage to ride “Nellie Belle,” my Road King Classic. I currently have 43K on her after 3 trips from So Cal to Sturgis and other trips.

I’d like to encourage all the gals considering riding that they can do this! Just take your time and get some riding under your belt before you buy your dream bike. Hang in there and forget those fleshy horses and get you an Iron one. LOL! P.S. I realized soon after building my confidence level that riding is SOOO much more than being social...what a freeing experience.

Bike: Street Glide®

Once the CVO Street Glide came out I was in love with this bike.

I was exposed to riding Harley's when my husband got back from Iraq and bought a 2006 Springer Softail. I rode on the back twice and felt the need to ride my own. Got my endorsement and bought a used 2002 Sporster, that lasted a year. Then traded up to a 2006 Softail Deluxe, took the experienced rider course with a girlfriend and before I knew it I had 34K miles which included a ride to Sturgis. What a road trip that was! But once the 2010 CVO Street Glide came out I was in love with this bike. I'll be riding the spiced rum for many years to come.
