MILWAUKEE (July 6, 2012) -
The Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® Factory Team is pleased to announce that Brad Baker will ride for the team in the Expert Twins class at the Hagerstown Half-Mile and Sacramento Mile rounds of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship while primary rider Kenny Coolbeth Jr. recuperates from injuries suffered last week at Lima, Ohio.
At just 19 years old, the Dryad, Washington resident brings an impressive resume to his second full season in the Expert Twins class as the 2008 AMA Dirt Track Horizon award winner, a five-time amateur national dirt track champion, the 2009 AMA Pro Singles champion, and the 2011 AMA Pro Saddlemen Rookie of the Year. His 2011 season netted a pole position at the Springfield Mile, nine top five finishes, and a sixth place overall finish in the GNC standings. Baker most recently has ridden a Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycle for the Columbia Avionics team.
“Kenny’s recovery is expected to take at least seven weeks, so until he’s able to return to action, we wanted to keep the Screamin’ Eagle XR750s on track for our fans,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. “Brad Baker is one of the rising stars in the AMA Pro flat track series, and we are excited to give him an opportunity to ride for the Harley-Davidson Factory team. It’s a great opportunity to keep our bike in the show and help him advance his career.”
On the first lap of the Lima main, Coolbeth was struck on the lower left leg by a flexible marker placed on the inside of the track to keep riders away from a wet area of the racing surface after a rider ahead of him knocked it off its anchor. Coolbeth was transported to Lima Memorial Health System, where doctors identified fractures of the tibia and fibula. Coolbeth is currently recovering at his home in Connecticut and hopes to return to action for the Indy Mile in August.
