About Harley-Davidson Street
In November 2013, Harley-Davidson revealed two new Custom™ motorcycles designed for young urban riders around the world – the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and Street 500.
Both bikes are built for an urban environment and feature the new Revolution X engine, designed to match the demands of stop-and-go traffic with nimble agility, while delivering instant throttle response to escape city gridlock.
The Revolution X engine will be housed in a new, narrow and lean chassis built for agility, with a super-low seat height, new suspension and broad handlebar sweep that provides confidence and maneuverability when managing tight turns and fast moves. Both signature Dark Custom motorcycles feature a premium, minimalist style that serves as a blank canvas for riders to customize.
The Street Challenge
The acclaimed and passionate Harley-Davidson Styling team, based at the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was given the challenge of creating the Street Custom Concepts, a project that aimed to demonstrate the infinite customization potential available to Harley-Davidson customers around the world.
Taking the minimalist, dark and rebellious new Harley-Davidson Street 750 and 500 models as a blank canvas, the styling team came up with three concepts designed to inspire a whole new generation of urban riders – Garage, the RDX 800 and the Urban Custom.

Tell us a little bit more about your job role at Harley-Davidson?
I’m a Senior Industrial Designer at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Based at the Willie G. Production Development Centre, my job is to come up with creative and developed ideas for future Harley-Davidson motorcycle products. I also support the development of our Parts and Accessories offer and contribute to the Motor Company’s wider Life Cycle Plan initiatives.
How long have you been at Harley-Davidson?
I have been based at Harley-Davidson Motor Company since 2012, but I have 10 years of design experience working across the motorcycle industry. Along with being bilingual in English and Japanese, I have a Bachelors’ degree in Fine Art from Central College, Pella, Iowa and a Bachelors’ degree in Transportation Design from Art Centre College of Design, Pasadena, California.
Which Harley-Davidson bikes do you ride?
I own 11 motorcycles but I always ride my Road Glide Bagger the most!
About Project Garage Concept
Tell us more about the inspiration behind this model?
The current custom scene in So Cal/Japan was the main influence for the Garage project - the region is leading the way for custom trends in the chopper, bobber and old school genre. The bike was built with the spirit of ‘garage’, using our bare hands to pull together every component. All the parts you see on the bike were constructed in-house by the Harley-Davidson design team.
What are the key customization features?
This model is ready to be ridden hard - designs, parts and finishes have all been inspired by retro elements of the 1970s. The model incorporates the use of carbon fibre parts, which is a unique concept to this Street build. Although we’re working within a traditional design template or ‘stance’, the introduction of more exotic parts was crucial to this customized model and the ‘garage’ genre.
Who is the customer/rider for this bike?
This bike is undoubtedly made for young urban adults that have that rebellious streak. This customized Street conceptl has plenty of power and panache and I can’t wait to see how Harley enthusiasts customize their own Street bikes in years to come.
