USING THE APPLICATION

Creating a ride

There are three ways to start creating your ride.

  1. Right click anywhere on the map to open an 'Add a Location' box and select the 'Add location' button.
  2. Right click on any selected locations such as a hotel, event, dealer or point-of-interest and select the 'Add location' button.
  3. Type any part of the starting address, including the country, city, state, and/or zip code, into the Start Location box. Click the 'Add' button when you are satisfied.

Adding more locations

Additional locations are added in the same manner as above. An unlimited number of locations are available to you, but keep in mind the more locations you add to the map, the longer it may take Ride Planner to process or save them. Locations are 'smart' in that they will add the most appropriate route between the locations in your ride. The route can be adjusted at any time.

Re-ordering locations

To re-order your locations, use your mouse to roll over the far left side of the location to activate it. Alternatively you can use the up and down arrows located on the Dashboard to activate. Click and hold on the activated location and move it to rearrange the order.

Edit your route

You can redirect the suggested route between locations by grabbing and dragging the route on the map to the new location. A white dot will be placed on the new location. If you like, right click on the dot for the option to change it to a location in your left hand menu. This option allows you to add notes and name your stop.

Removing locations

Locations can be removed by clicking the 'X' on the right side of the location bar or by clicking on the location on the map view to open the info box and click 'Remove Location'.

Naming locations

Locations can be named to be more descriptive. Eg. Bob's House or Mount Rushmore. Click on 'Name It', fill in the text field and click the 'Save' button. If you'd like to change the name, click on 'Change Name', fill in the text field and click 'Save'.

You can add an unlimited number of locations, but keep in mind the more locations you add to the map, the longer it may take Ride Planner to process or save them. Locations are "smart" in that they will be added between the most appropriate points in your ride plan. If you would like to add a location to a different segment of your trip, you may use the arrows in the left panel to rearrange the order of your locations.

Type in any part of the starting address, including the country, city, state, and/or zip code into the Start Location box of the My Ride panel. Your view will snap to the most relevant match for your information. If your location returns more than one option, a box will appear under the Start Location box with alternative possible locations. Once you've created a location, you can use the Add Location box to add more.

Click on the "GO" button to immediately snap the map to that location.

Adding a waypoint

A waypoint is not a location on your route. Instead, it's a way to guide your route through certain areas or landmarks. For example, if you wish to travel from California to Texas, but want to ride through Wyoming on the way, adding waypoints in Wyoming will redirect your route in that direction.

You can move waypoints around just like locations. Redirect your route by clicking on a waypoint and dragging it to a new location. You can also enter a new address to a move the waypoint and redirect your route.

Create a waypoint by rolling-over your route. Once you see "Drag to change route" tooltip you can drag it to the location you'd like to add as a waypoint. When you release your mouse button, a waypoint will be created and your route will be updated. Use this method to place a waypoint between two locations.

After you've added at least one location, right click at any point on the map and choose "+ Add waypoint" to redirect your route through that point. Your route and driving directions will be re-arranged to accommodate the new waypoint. You may add as many waypoints as you like. However, waypoints are added after the last location. If you wish to add a waypoint between two locations, use the method described in the above paragraph instead.

Converting locations and waypoints

If you decide that you'd like to change a waypoint to a location, just right click on the waypoint and choose "Change to location." You may also change locations to waypoints using this feature. Zoom to street level and center your view on the waypoint by right clicking. The new location will appear in My Ride panel.

Remove a waypoint by right clicking on it and choosing "Remove waypoint."

Location Details

Move your mouse over a location on the map and its name will appear above the location. Left click on the location name on the map to view the address. You can also center the map on that location or move down to street level in this menu.

Right click on the location to remove or change locations. Use the "Zoom to show entire ride" option to see the entire route at once if you save more than one location.

Adding/viewing/editing/saving/hiding notes

The notes feature is an easy way to keep track of any information that relates to a specific location. You can add hotel confirmation numbers, local landmarks, restaurants you want to try, meet-up times - anything you want. To create a note, click "Add Notes". This will open a text box where you can type your message. When complete, click "Add Notes". Locations with an existing note will be indicated with a "View Notes" button. Click the button to view the note. You can also edit or add to the note here.

First, check the "View Notes" option at the top of the My Ride panel. Then, click on "Add Notes" link that appears for each location.

Type your note (500 characters or less) in the pop-up window. If you type a URL in the note, a link to that URL will appear when the note is viewed. When you're finished, click on "Add Notes." Your note will appear under the location.

To edit a note, or delete a note, click on the "View Notes" link on the note in the My Ride panel. Edit your note and use "Save/Hide Notes" to save your changes.

If you choose to print out your ride plan, each note will be included in the printout. (See Printing Your Ride Plan below.)

Creating a Roundtrip

Use the 'Round trip' function at the bottom of the My Ride Dashboard to connect the last and first locations of your route. This function will use the most direct route between the locations, so you won't necessarily return on the same roads you took to get there.

Reversing a route

This function will reverse your directions, from the last point in your route to the first. This will not create a new route. Instead, it will retrace your route from finish to start, bearing in mind one-way streets and divided highways.

Starting Over

You can delete all of the locations, points, and other data by using the 'reset locations and start over' link at the bottom of the My Ride Dashboard. All information will be deleted.
