The Games of the XXVII Olympiad were held in Sydney, Australia. The international, multi-sport event was held from September 15th-October 1st, 2000, with 199 countries from around the world competing. This marked only the second time that the modern Summer Olympics took place in the Southern Hemisphere.
Harley-Davidson was an official provider of motorcycles for the Summer Olympic Games, furnishing vehicles for different purposes. Specially designed police model Road King motorcycles, complete with sirens, lights, and unique decals, were ridden as escort vehicles throughout Australia during the Olympic Torch Relay. Harley-Davidson motorcycles were also used by UPS, another sponsor of the games, to transport film from different athletic venues quickly and efficiently. Sixteen additional Road Kings, including this motorcycle, were created as limited edition "Look of the Games" models, which were auctioned off by the Sydney Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games as a fundraiser.
