Juneau Avenue is Harley-Davidson's corporate headquarters. It is the site where the first factory - a wooden shed - was built in 1903 in the backyard of the William C. Davidson family home. In 1994, the Juneau Avenue site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Service/Function: Produces powertrains for Touring, Softail,® Dyna® and Sportster® model families and Custom Vehicle Operations™ (CVO™). Engines and transmissions also are produced for sale through the Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories business.

 

The 912,000-square-foot Pilgrim Road Powertrain Operations facility in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, is where the “jewel” of the motorcycle comes to life. Pilgrim Road employees produce engines and transmissions for the final assembly plants in York, Pennsylvania, and Kansas City, Missouri, for Touring, Softail,® Dyna® and Sportster® model families and Custom Vehicle Operations™ (CVO™). Employees also produce powertrain kits, which ship to two complete knock down (CKD) assembly plants—one in Manaus, Brazil and one in Bawal, India. Each CKD plant assembles motorcycles from component kits produced by the Company's plants and by the Company's suppliers.

WILLIE G. DAVIDSON PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Service/Function: Engineering, Styling and Purchasing

 

Dedicated as the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center (PDC), this 370,000 square-foot facility opened its doors for operation in March 1997. The PDC was built to bring together the Original Equipment (OE) Engineering, Styling and Developmental Purchasing groups in a centralized location to improve the product development process. The functions represented within the PDC include Styling, Engineering, Finance, Information Services, Product Liability, Purchasing, Marketing, Homologation, Sales, Service and key suppliers. The employees located at the PDC are responsible for new product development, testing, styling and developmental purchasing.

 

The PDC is built on land purchased by Harley-Davidson 50 years ago. This land was used as a snowmobile test track and you can still see some of the original tracks through the woods.

 

The PDC also operates the following test sites: Arizona Provings Grounds and Florida Evaluation Center.

 

TOMAHAWK OPERATIONS

Service/Function: Manufactures, finishes and ships windshields, composite and plastic parts

 

In 1963, Harley-Davidson purchased the Tomahawk Boat Manufacturing Corporation to gain access to a fiberglass manufacturing source for motorcycle components. Just two years later, Tomahawk Operations became the sole supplier of the fiberglass parts including sidecar bodies, saddlebags and windshields. Tomahawk Operations now consists of two facilities—192,000 square feet on 96 acres. Cosmetic components are produced using an injection molding process and are later painted. Employees also produce windshields for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and parts produced for sale through the Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories business.

 

VEHICLE AND POWERTRAIN OPERATIONS
KANSAS CITY, MO

Service/Function: Assembles all Dyna, Sportsters, VRSC and Street family motorcycles; produces powertrains for V-Rod and Street motorcycles.

 

The 358,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations in Kansas City, Mo. was built in 1998.

 

Kansas City employees produce the Sportster®, Dyna®, V-Rod® and Street families of motorcycles from fabrication and finishing through final assembly to include the liquid-cooled Revolution® and RevolutionX powertrains for the V-Rod and Street motorcycles.

Service/Function: Provides fabrication, painting and final assembly of Touring, Trike, Softail® and limited edition custom models.

 

Established as an assembly facility in 1973, Harley-Davidson's York Vehicle Operations makes more than 60 percent of the company’s motorcycles. The York facility covers more than 171 acres and has over 600 thousand square feet under roof.

 

Employees work around the clock assembling Touring, Trike and Softail® models, as well as limited production, factory-custom motorcycles. In addition, they perform a variety of manufacturing operations, including fabrication, welding, polishing and painting. York employees also produce a wide range of current and replacement parts for various models.

Harley-Davidson began operations of its first complete knockdown (CKD) facility outside of the United States in Manaus, Brazil in 1999. Located in the neighborhood of Tarumã, the most recent 107,000-square-foot CKD assembly facility opened in 2012 and is responsible for assembling the majority of models that Harley-Davidson offers in Brazil.

Harley-Davidson opened its Bawal, India manufacturing facility in 2011 to improve its production flexibility, market responsiveness and strengthen operations in the country. In 2014, Harley-Davidson began manufacturing the Street model motorcycles in Bawal for India, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Harley-Davidson opened its Latin America region headquarters in Miami in 2011, which supports subsidiary operations in Brazil and Mexico, as well as operations in many other countries through the region’s Latin America Direct Markets group. All Harley-Davidson functions critical to the development and support for the markets are represented including: sales, marketing, retail development and others. 

 

Archive records show Harley-Davidson motorcycles winning races in Sao Paulo, Brazil as far back as 1918, while Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been sold in Mexico for more than 80 years.

Harley-Davidson archives note sales to Japan as early as 1912, and Australia is home to the oldest continuously operating Harley-Davidson dealership outside of the United States, established in 1918.
