Motorcycles, madness and mayhem…

…welcome to The Ride 2016 –  a combination of two iconic American brands, three bike-building teams, a challenge book and a route map. Spiced rum specialist, Sailor Jerry, has created an epic nine-day competitive riding challenge and it all started with a bike-build-off on a Harley-Davidson Street Bob®.

All three teams have taken different approaches to their customisation, producing three distinctive looks using a mix of authorized Harley-Davidson® parts and accessories and additional bolt-ons. From seats and handlebars to exhausts and paintwork, all three Street Bobs are now ready to hit the road on 2 July for the start of The Ride 2016.

Check out all three bikes  to see which team you think has the edge in the first challenge and let us know which is your favourite on Facebook and Instagram using #TheRideSJUK.

The three British teams will take on a series of competitive challenges to compete for The Ride 2016 crown and the chance to win the Harley® they customised and a trip to Hawaii – the spiritual home of Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins.

Nationwide challenges will see the teams fight for the lead as they take on epic eating competitions, pit bike races, cut each other’s hair and wear their helmet for 24 hours straight as they make their own way across the country. On the final ride day of 9 July, the riders will have 24 hours to complete their final challenges face-to-face, ahead of the winner being crowned on 10 July.

Meet the teams here in their short video introductions:

06.07.16 MID-RIDE UPDATE: The challenge is on!

As Sailor Jerry’s The Ride 2016 reaches the midway point, we’ve seen the competitive spirit of all three teams kick up a gear as they continue to complete the crazy challenges. From doing squats with a beer balanced on their heads to getting tattoos, shaving their hair and eating Nottingham’s hottest chicken wings,  the three teams have ridden hundreds of miles already – even sleeping rough along the way at times to pick up extra points.

Catch up on the first part of the Kingdom of Kicks experience in The Ride 2016 here

One of the biggest deciders of the winning team will be their support on social media, including a public vote on the best bike build on Sailor Jerry’s Facebook page. FTH is currently winning the vote for their custom Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob®, which sports an unusual exhaust configuration, a Sportster Forty-Eight tank with bespoke paint job and some adapted handlebars.

In second position is The Originals, with a purple bike that was inspired by the fact that Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins was the first person to create a purple tattoo. The self-confessed cosmetic approach taken by the team, who are not custom bike builders, also includes a bespoke seat.

Currently trailing in the vote is Kingdom of Kicks – a team led by custom bike builder, James Jordan. They’ve taken inspiration from drag style racers for their Street Bob Special®, which features a different tank, handlebars and exhaust.

There’s still time to cast a vote for your favourite here and help influence who will be crowned The Ride 2016 champions and win their custom Street Bob and a trip to the spiritual home of Norman Collins, Hawaii.
