Turning a dream into reality
Like many others, Craig Harris aspired to own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, but believed it would be out of reach. So, when he received a phone call to say he had won the Discover More 2016 competition – a dream trip of a lifetime, with a mate, on two Harleys, anywhere in the world – he couldn’t believe his luck!
His journey, which could be the start of a long love affair with Harley motorcycles, began on 3 April 2016 when Craig, took a test ride of a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Ltd at his local dealership. And then, in June 2016, his name was selected as the UK & Ireland winner of the highly coveted Discover More prize.
On hearing the news, the 56-year-old said: “Are you serious? I bet everyone says this, but seriously I’ve never won anything in my life. I can’t believe it!” After recovering from the initial shock of winning, Craig went on to say: “Ever since a trip last year to Florida and hiring an Electra Glide for a day, I have been hooked on the brand…so to get an hour’s free test ride on a Harley initially and then to win this trip is like a dream come true – it’s something I never thought would happen… I’m pleased and excited it has though!”
The Daventry-based rider – a sales representative of specialist gardening products – is taking lucky friend, Ian Mold, on Craig’s chosen journey of discovery to ride the iconic Route 66. “It has to be the place because no matter who you speak to, riding Route 66 is the ultimate biking road and, of course, it has to be ridden on a Harley-Davidson. I’ve been watching YouTube videos of Route 66, the complete touring books are on the way, and I’ve got the Billy Connolly video,” he said.
Ahead of the trip in October this year, Craig and Ian are planning to complete further test rides to ensure they find the perfect touring machine to enjoy the ride on. Craig says his friend will join him on a test ride because “he has short legs, so we need to see if an Ultra Low is the best bike for him on a long ride!”
We hope he enjoys this memorable experience and look forward to seeing some of the footage from the GoPro camera that he received as part of his prize.
