Oxford (August 22, 2014) - After the bout of glorious summer weather we’ve enjoyed, we know you probably don’t need any more reasons to say screw it, let’s ride this year! The UK is full of great places to visit and routes to get out and enjoy your Harley® motorcycle on, but just in case you needed a bit of inspiration, we thought we’d share details of Harley-Davidson UK’s tale of discovery with you…
#DiscoverMore2014 sees one Street Glide® travel over 20,000km across 32 countries. We decided to show it a good time during its stint in the UK and enlisted the help of rugby legend, Mike Tindall, to help us with our leg of this magnificent tour.
On Sunday 20 July, Mike collected the Street Glide and, riding alongside UK Country Manager David Hackshall, took it from Bath, across the Severn Crossing and into the beautiful Welsh countryside. A wild stint through the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia National Parks took the boys to almost meet their maker at ZipWorld! At over a mile in length and located in the Penrhyn Quarry, ZipWorld Velocity is the longest and fastest zip wire in the world.
It was here that Mike and H-D UK country manager, David Hackshall, flew solo through the sky at speeds of over 100mph, 500ft in the air, experiencing the nearest thrill to flying.
Having had more than enough excitement on his trip, Mike handed the Street Glide to Managing Editor of The Daily Telegraph, Ian Marsden. He took hold of the bars and guided the Glide over to motorcycling mecca, the Isle of Man. The Discover More bike acted as a worthy facilitator for Ian to experience the 37+ mile course – he even covered more than one lap of this motorcycling nirvana.
Although the national speed limits in urban areas are rigidly enforced, outside of the restricted areas, Ian was able to sample a slice of TT competition aboard the Street Glide: “It doesn't matter what bike you ride, the IoM is a special place to ride around. The fact I'm on a Harley tourer makes the ride a relaxing, comfortable affair allowing me to see and enjoy much more of what the island has to offer.”
He added: “People don't always realise what the UK has to offer for touring. We have areas that are equal to anywhere in the world for opening our eyes."
With all the great weather we’re enjoying this year, why go anywhere else? What will you discover this summer before our annual quota of sunshine runs out?! Don’t forget to pop into the dealership and tell us about it when you get back or, even better, before you go and we can make sure you’re well equipped to enjoy the ride.
But if staycations aren’t for you and you want to travel abroad, why not follow our Discover More motorcycle to the biggest Harley-Davidson® festival in Europe, which also marks the end of the Discover More tour? More than 100,000 Harley-Davidson riders and enthusiasts will descend on the picturesque lakeside village of Faaker See in Austria from 2-7 September as the region transforms into European Bike Week, Europe’s biggest open and free motorcycle festival.
