Harley-Davidson Authorized Rentals – a winning view!

Oxford (June 19, 2014) - At the beginning of March this year, Harley-Davidson UK, in conjunction with MotorCycle News, ran a competition for one lucky person to win a two-day rental voucher valid at one of the UK Harley-Davidson® Authorized Rental Dealers. The competition proved very popular with over 5,000 entries during the month-long competition.

As the saying goes, there can only be one… and the winning entry belonged to David Matthews of Fordingbridge, Hampshire. Needless to say, David was excited when told he had won two days’ Authorized Rental on a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle of his choice: “I know it’s been said lots of times by lots of people, but I’ve never won anything before. This is brilliant news for me. I used to own a Sportster some years ago and I’ve been thinking about getting a Harley Dyna, so I’ll opt for one of these as the Rental bike.”

A decision by David to make the most of his prize led him and his partner combining the rental prize with an extended break. The scenic Somerset countryside was David’s chosen destination and Riders (Bridgwater) Ltd. was the Authorized Rental dealer David contacted to book his bike.

A simple process of speaking to Riders’ Authorized Rental contact led to bike availability and possible rental dates that took into account Riders’ Sunday closing. David elected to ride a 2014 model Dyna Fat Bob® from the rental fleet.

After travelling down on the evening of Friday 30 May to a convenient B&B, David and his partner Julie were up, awake and at Riders’ front door early Saturday morning to pick up the Fat Bob for a big slice of riding pleasure. It didn’t take long to complete the necessary paperwork with signatures before the couple were putting on their riding gear – this included new crash helmets bought specifically for the occasion. And then they were off…

“The people at Riders were so, so helpful,” said David about his rentals experience. “They made Julie and I very welcome from the start. We had already sorted most of the arrangements over the phone and only had a couple of items at the time to sign and show – a utility bill and driver’s licence – and that was it.

“Paul Thyer, the man at Riders, offered a replacement seat for Julie – in our excitement we didn’t realise the small pillion might be a problem. Paul then came out with what looked like a touring seat but it didn’t look out of place on the bike. Julie really liked it. We spent most of Saturday morning getting used to the bike – it is a little heavier than my old Sportster® motorcycle but it was ok when we got rolling and I quickly got used to it.

“I don’t know how many miles we did but we enjoyed ourselves. We went to Cheddar Gorge and Minehead, and places in between. When it got to Monday morning, I really didn’t want to give the bike back. The whole experience was a real pleasure and I can’t thank Harley-Davidson and Riders enough for the wonderful time.”

“To make the event and ride a little more special and extra comfortable,” said Paul Thyer, Riders Group Rental Manager, “We took it upon ourselves to pop on a King Comfort seat before we let them head off on their way – it’s important to us that customers enjoy the Harley experience to the full so we will always go that little further to help. When they came back on the Monday morning, it was obvious the pair of them enjoyed every minute of the time with the bike. They plan on returning later in the year to try a different model in order to get the bike of their dreams.”
