Oxford (07 December 2012) - Shane Byrne recently concluded his celebrations at winning the 2012 British Superbike Championship, his third such title, by purchasing a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.
Shane, more commonly known by his nickname ‘Shakey’, is not just a professional motorcycle racer but also a true motorcycling fanatic who loves to spend as much time as possible riding for pleasure on the UK’s roads.
Shakey’s choice to buy the Harley-Davidson XL 1200X Forty-Eight® for out of office duties comes as no surprise to his friends and family because, as an avid fan of Harley-Davidson, this is his third purchase of the famous American brand. But there is a special reason why the 35-year-old Londoner opted for this particular model from the Harley-Davidson Sportster® range...
The 2013 model year Forty-Eight is now available with an optional eye-catching Hard Candy Custom™ paint scheme of Hard Candy Coloma Gold. This dazzling metal flake finish, which involves a skilful process of using dyed metal flakes and hand-sanding between six applications of glass-like lacquer, mirrors the same gold paint used on Shakey’s crash helmet to commemorate his famous British Superbike Championship title win.
The XL 1200X Forty-Eight is just one of a four bike range of 2013 Harley-Davidson models readily available with optional dynamic colours of Hard Candy Custom paint. The other models are fellow Sportster XL 1200V Seventy-Two™, the Dyna® FXDB Street Bob® and Softail® Deluxe 103.
Of course, buying a Harley-Davidson for its unique styling is one thing, but to Shakey Byrne and countless other Harley owners, it is also to experience the joys of riding on the road without pressure of having to own the latest and fastest machinery – there is a time and a place to ride 200HP track-focussed missiles, as Shakey knows only too well.
Shakey took delivery of his £9295 Forty-Eight with Hard Candy Coloma Gold paint scheme from supplying dealer Maidstone Harley-Davidson, and had this to say about his new purchase:
“The Forty-Eight is such a cool bike; a few of my friends have Sportster models too, so now I can blend in with them. The reason I chose a Harley-Davidson is because you can select a multitude of extras and accessories to personalise the bike to your style. With the Japanese bikes, once you’ve fitted an aftermarket exhaust you’re pretty much done. It’s also nice to relax on a bike – on a sports bike, sometimes you’re ragging it just to impress and I do enough of that during the racing season! So yes, owning a Harley makes me relaxed and puts me in cruise-mode.”
Ian Graves, Sales Manager for Maidstone Harley-Davidson, also commented on his handover of the Forty-Eight to the triple British Superbike Championship winner:
“The very fact a renowned motorcycle racer buys a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for pleasure riding says how much appeal the brand has. Not just because the Forty-Eight is a great-looking bike but also because it is a very capable machine. Shakey is not only a world renowned racer but a perfect ambassador for motorcycling – and all of us at Maidstone Harley-Davidson are delighted to be associated with such a legend.”
As with all new Harley-Davidson bike purchases, Shakey Byrne qualifies for a free 12-month inclusion to H.O.G.® (Harley Owners Group®) to enjoy the special benefits of being part of the largest, world-wide owners club. Expect to see one of the genuinely fastest UK motorcyclists at a meet near you…
