Father’s Day Weekend At The Drag Races In Grand Bend

Grand Bend, Ontario – Grand Bend MotorPlex (June 21, 2011) - Eastern V-Rod® Destroyer™ Series – Round Two

A weekend of brilliant skies were a welcoming site for the Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada-sponsored V-Rod® Destroyer™ Drag Race Series hosted on Father’s Day weekend for the second round of the Eastern Race Series.

Saturday’s qualification runs started normally with predictable results. Rocky’s Harley-Davidson®-sponsored Pete Thomson bested the field with an impressive ET of 9.416 and a top speed of 141.37, setting a strong standard for the weekend event. Right behind him, challenger Mitch McCallum, supported by Kingston’s MotoSport Plus, posted an ET of 9.472 and a top speed of 140.33. Thunder Road Harley-Davidson® rider, Paul Guerrieri, had an imposing ride, finally breaking into the nines with a creditable 9.674. The rest of the seven-rider field all got off to a good start. However, the second qualification round sent everyone scrambling for set-ups and answers. Thomson struggled at the tree while McCallum drifted backwards. Guerrieri failed to come to terms with his launch and had to settle with his first run of the day. Only Chris Fox of Fox Harley-Davidson® and Medicine Hat rider, Jeff Pitre, sponsored by Harley’s Hard Rock Saloon, improved their times.

Racing came back into kilter in round three with all racers improving in their efforts to set the stage for Sunday’s elimination rounds, and Thomson securing the top spot posting an ET of 9.419 and a top speed of 143.37.

Sunday’s event was anybody’s race to win, but two rounds of eliminations resulted in an adrenalin-laden Thomson/McCallum showdown. McCallum slid into the paint of his V-Rod® Destroyer™ bike and had the better reaction time and good ET of 9.669, but the consummate pro, Thomson, had a brilliant ride with an ET of 9.433 and a top speed of 144.85 to take the win in round two. A relieved Pete Thomson said after the race, “That was one of the best passes all weekend. The bikes are running good and I think Thomson Racing team is in real good shape to run in the nine-fours in the next round.” Mitch McCallum remained optimistic in his post-race interview by saying, “I’m a little disappointed for my sponsor MotoSport Plus of Kingston, but we left nothing on the table, we had some problems with the bike, but we rode through them.” He added, “We did the best we could and we are happy with the second.”

The next race for the Eastern V-Rod® Destroyer™ Series will be on July 16 and 17 once again at the Grand Bend MotorPlex in Grand Bend, Ontario. For further information on Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing events, please refer to
